Johann Heinrich Schmucker

Johann Heinrich Schmucker (born March 20, 1684 in Köthen (Anhalt) , † October 7, 1756 in Wesel ) was a German Reformed theologian .

Life

Born as one of 14 children of the cantor Johann Gottfried and Dorothea Elisabeth Schmucker, Johann Schmucker attended the Reformed Theological High School Illustre in Bremen from May 1700 to August 1705 after completing his school career in Köthen . In August 1705, Schmucker moved from Bremen to the University of Franeker in the Netherlands . In 1706 he took up a position as private tutor in Celle and from 1709 was appointed the first pastor of the Reformed church in Celle, which was founded in the same year. In 1721 he turned down a job in Solingen and did not take another position in Elberfeld until 1723 , and in 1729 he moved to Wesel . When Schmucker was appointed to the Consistorial Council of the Reformed Congregation in Magdeburg in 1731, he refused again and stayed in Wesel until the end of his life, where he promoted the publication of his sermons and was involved in the translation of theological writings from Dutch and French .
