Anytos (educator of Despoina)
Anytos ( Greek Ἀνυτος ) was in Greek mythology the tutor of Despoina , the daughter of Demeter .
According to Pausanias , he was one of the titans . Anytos was honored with a statue in the temple dedicated to Despoina near the Arcadian hill Akakesion in Lykosura , which stood there in the group of statues of Damophon . The original of this statue is now in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens , casts are in the Museum of Lykosura.
Since Persephone, corresponding in many respects to Despoina , was brought up by Curetes and Pausanias also mentions Curetes at the relevant point, and Anytos standing next to Despoina is shown as a man in armor in the shrine of Demeter and Despoina near Lykosura, which is iconographically more of a Curet it was assumed that Anytos was one of the curetes.
