The Apóstol Felipe was one of the six galleons that Martin de Arana built for the Spanish King Philip IV .

They belonged to the so-called Galeones de la Plata . This type of galleon was used to transport goods and treasures on the route between America and Spain , the so-called Carrera de las Indias . This galleon began its first voyage as part of the fleet in 1629. At that time it transported gold and precious stones on the way to Spain. Until 1633 she was the admiral ship of the Armada de la Guardia . The galleon took part in the war from Brazil to retake Pernambuco and brought troops and money to Flanders for the Battle of the Dunes on June 14, 1658.
