Apame

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Apame (also Apama ) was the first wife of Seleukos I Nikator , the founder of the Seleucid Empire .

Apame was a daughter of the Bactrian prince Spitamenes , who was killed in the fight against Alexander the great . In the course of Alexander's marriage policy, Apame was at the mass wedding of Susa in 324 BC. Married to his general Seleukos. Their son was the heir to the throne Antiochus I , maybe also Achaios the Elder . They also presumably had two daughters, Apame and Laodike.

Apame was next to Laodike the most common female given name within the dynasty. Several cities were named after her, including Apamea on the Orontes and Apamea in Phrygia .

Remarks

  1. Arrian , Anabasis 7, 4, 6; Plutarch ( Demetrios 31, 3) imprecisely describes Apame as a Persian.
