Apellicon of Teos
Apellikon von Teos was a politician and book collector from ancient Athens .
Apellikon probably had 89/88 BC In his hometown he held the office of mint master and shortly afterwards joined a group around the alleged tyrant Athenion . He gained his fame as the owner of an important collection of books, which included in particular Aristotle's manuscripts . According to the later tradition, Apellikon had acquired these from the descendants of Neleus ( Theophrastus' nephew ) in skepticism , in whose house the works had previously been stored unpublished for decades, but this story is doubtful. In any case, Apellikon was the editor of the Aristotelian works, but his work was in parts flawed.
End of 88 BC He was sent out with an Athenian fleet to take Delos , but the operation failed. After the death of Apellicon and the conquest of Athens by Sulla in 86 BC. He had the library move in and brought to Rome , where it became the basis for the treatment of Tyrannion and the Aristotle edition of Andronikos of Rhodes .
