Apollinaris Patera is a shield volcano on Mars . The oval base of the extinct volcano is approximately 180 to 280 kilometers in diameter. Its height reaches up to about 5 kilometers above the surrounding area. Its caldera has a diameter of around 80 kilometers and a depth of several hundred meters. It is located south of the equator , on the south-eastern edge of Elysium Planitia .
