Aponius

Aponius was a Roman gentile name ( nomen gentile ).

Some people by that name were:

• the knight Lucius Aponius, n. Chr. as a companion of the younger in 14 Drusus called
• the senator and former praetor Aponius Saturninus in the time of Caligula
• the senator Marcus Aponius Saturninus, consul in an unknown year in the time of Nero , 69 governor of the province of Moesia , where he fought against the Roxolans . Later (after 73) he became proconsul of the province of Asia .

Next an otherwise unknown Aponius, Apponius or Aponio is probably of Syrian origin from the 5th or 7th or 9th century author of In Cantico Canticorum explanatio , a Song of Songs commentary . See Apponius (Syria) .
