Aponogeton longiplumulosus even Wavy Madagascar Wasserähre called, is an amphibious live plants art from the family of the water ear plants .

description

This herbaceous perennial plant forms a tuber. The leaves are ribbon-shaped and wavy on the edge and grow out of a rosette. The leaf surface is dark green. Their height is 40 to 50 centimeters. This plant species develops a dark purple biennial inflorescence. The number of chromosomes is 2n = 38 or about 58.

Occurrence

This species has its natural range in northern Madagascar .

Use in the aquarium hobby

Like a whole range of water spikes , this type of plant is also offered in specialist shops for planting aquariums . However, this type of water ear is already one of the slightly more demanding aquarium plants , among other things it needs a rest period in which the tuber can regenerate. The attractive dark purple inflorescence with its eponymous long stem ( plumula ) can also develop in the aquarium, but seeds rarely develop. The plant's light requirement is medium to high. It needs water temperatures between 22 and 26 degrees Celsius. It is suitable for planting the background and central zone in the aquarium and can also be used as a specimen plant . Due to its size, the aquarium in which it is maintained should hold at least 200 liters of water. The offspring have not been successful so far; propagation via seeds is considered difficult.
