Apopa is a city and a municipality in El Salvador in Central America in the department of San Salvador and has 131,286 inhabitants (2007) on 52 km², making it the fourth largest city in the country and one of the most densely populated areas.
The city lies at an altitude of over 400 m above sea level. NN about 5 km west of Tonacatepeque and about the same distance north of the outskirts of the state capital San Salvador .
