Appius Celer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Appius Celer (his prenomen is not known) was a member of the Roman knighthood ( Eques ) living in the 3rd century AD .

A military diploma dated November 29, 221 proves that Celer 221 was prefect of the fleet stationed in Misenum ( classis praetoria Antoniniana Misenensis ). It is possible that he already held this office in 218; however, the prefect's name in the military diploma of 218 cannot be read with certainty.
