Ichalkaranji is a city in the state of Maharashtra in western India . It is part of the Kolhapur district . Ichalkaranj is divided into 25 wards and is administered as the Municipal Council. It is located near the border with Karnataka . It is 425 kilometers from Ichalkaranji to Mumbai .

Demographics

According to the 2011 census, the population of the city is 287,353 and that of the agglomeration is 325,499. Ichalkaranji has a gender ratio of 926 women per 1000 men and thus a common surplus of men for India. The literacy rate was 85.98% in 2011. Almost 78.3% of the population are Hindus , around 16.0% are Muslims , 4.7% are Jainas and around 1.0% belong to other or no religions . Children under six years of age are 11.7% of the population.

The city of Ichalkaranji is known for its textile export and textile industry, which has earned it the nickname "Manchester of Maharashtra". Other industries and the service sector are also on the upswing. The city is even among the wealthiest in India when you factor in people's access to consumer goods and home appliances.
