Appropriateness Evaluation Protocol

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term appropriateness evaluation protocol , adopted from the US health care system , is mostly used in abbreviated form (AEP or G-AEP) or also referred to as "G-AEP criteria".

The G-AEP criteria serve to review the appropriateness of inpatient hospital treatment (evaluation: review; appropriateness: appropriateness). This is a kind of checklist for the test procedure, when inpatient admission to a hospital is undoubtedly and undisputedly necessary. In particular, the severity of the disease and the treatment required are taken into account. The criteria were drawn up by the central associations of health insurance companies and the German Hospital Society. However, they do not reflect all inpatient treatment needs and are also unsuitable for some medical specialties (e.g. psychiatry and paediatrics ). Based on the overall assessment of the case by the admitting hospital doctor, it may also be necessary to be admitted to the hospital even though none of the criteria are met.
