Aqcha or Akcha (Persian: آقچه) is a city in northern Afghanistan .

geography

It is located about 50 kilometers east of Scheberghan and 100 kilometers west of Mazar-e Sharif . The place serves as the center of the Aqcha district in the Afghan province of Juzdschan . The city is located a few kilometers north of the main Sheberghan - Mazar-i-Sharif road

Demographics

The city's population is around 50,000 people. The majority of these are mainly ethnic Turkmen and Uzbeks .

history

At the beginning of the 19th century, Aqcha belonged to Bukhara , but was salvaged by Dost Mohammed in 1855 when it became a khanate in the Afghan Turkestan province . At the beginning of the 20th century, Aqchah was protected by a mud wall and a citadel with an estimated 8,000 inhabitants, mostly Uzbeks. The khanate was small but well watered and populous.
