Aquaball

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aquaball is a recreational sport that was created in 1995 by the German Swimming Association . It is a ball game in the water. Aquaball is not a variant of water polo , but an independent sport whose differences to water polo are not only in the rules and playing field.

Two teams with four players each try to get a ball into the opposing goal. Simple rules, the basic maxim of fair play and the chest-high water level allow beginners and not so good swimmers to get started quickly.

Aquaball is played in a popular sport and a competitive variant.

The playing field should be about 12 × 8 m with chest-high water level. The playing time is between 2 × 4 and 2 × 7 minutes. Is played with a volleyball on inflatable, 2 x 1 m wide gates. Aquaball is a disembodied game. It can also be played in mixed teams.

Popular sport

There are only four basic rules for the popular sport variant. These basic rules are:

  1. Fair play
  2. No movement (running and / or swimming) with the ball
  3. The ball must not be pushed under the water surface
  4. Before a valid goal throw, the ball must have been passed three times within the team

In Aquaball, the popular sports events are summarized as the Aquaball Challenge. It is not directly about success, but rather about promoting fun in the game and bringing the participants closer to the sport.

Competitive sport

Aquaball is also available as a competition version. There is of course a more detailed set of rules for this. Competitions are held throughout Germany. The most famous competition is the DSV Champions Tour , which is also the official German championship of the German Swimming Association in this sport. This is a tournament series that consists of five events and in which the teams that have to register with their players at the beginning of the season receive points depending on their placement. The team with the most points at the end of the season is the winner of the Champions Tour and also the official German champion in Aquaball.

Rating classes

The Aquaball has the following four rating classes:

Youngsters: 8 bis 13 Jahre
Jugend: von 14 bis 18 Jahre
Offene Klasse: ab 18 Jahren
Damen: weibliche Spieler jeden Alters

Championships

There are currently two types of championships at Aquaball. On the one hand, the tournament series of the Champions Tour, which is the official German championship in this sport and consists of 5 individual tournaments, which are held throughout Germany during the season. Here the participating teams get points for the overall ranking depending on how they performed on the corresponding match day. Whoever has the most points at the end of the season wins the Champions Tour and thus the championship. The championship was held for the first time in 2007 and has been held annually since then.

So far, there are only championships at state level in Bavaria. The Bavarian Aquaball Championships were held for the first time in 2001.

Tournaments

In addition to the DSV Aquaball Champions Tour, there are also some traditional aquaball competitions. First of all, the ISP (International Savings Banks Cup) should be mentioned, which was held for the eleventh time in a row in 2011. In addition to the Soest Aquaball Cup and the Great Berlin Aquaball Cup, there are also a large number of tournaments that are held annually. In addition, a large number of fun tournaments take place throughout Germany, which are brought together by the DSV under the term Aquaball Challenge. These are mainly tournaments where the fun of the game comes first.
