The Aquaria Vattenmuseum was a show aquarium and natural history museum in Stockholm . It has been closed permanently since September 2018, after which the building was demolished in spring 2019.

It was on the west side of the island of Djurgården, part of the Swedish capital Stockholm, in the Östermalm district at Falkenbergsgatan 2. On the west side, the aquarium bordered the Ladugårdslandsviken bay .

Establishment and history

The rather small aquarium was built in 1991 at a location where the so-called Vasa shipyard, the first location of the nearby Vasa , was located until 1988 .

The aquatic worlds of the Baltic Sea , the tropical rainforest, the mangrove forests, the coral reef, the tropical ocean and a mountain lake with trout were shown in the various aquariums of the facility . Partly day and night as well as various weather phenomena such as rain or thunderstorms were simulated.

Small sharks, catfish and stingrays were kept. In the area of ​​a coral reef there were anemones, clown fish and mandarin fish . There were also sea ​​cucumbers , shrimp, giant clams and seahorses .

Toads and insects, especially butterflies, were also shown in the aquarium. The information in the aquarium was only available in Swedish and English , but not in German .

There was a café and a shop on the west side of the aquarium.
