In 1955 a new aqueduct was opened and these facilities were abandoned. In 1970, Dr. Juan Vicente Seijas took the initiative to use the facilities again and to build the aquarium. A first exhibition was opened on December 21, 1975. Seijas encouraged private and public institutions to support this project.
