As Aquascaping is known in the hunting used technique of designing of aquariums landscapes . The focus here is on aesthetic standards. For example, plants, stones and driftwood are used. Aquascaping is therefore also referred to as "underwater gardening". Aquascaping was founded by Takashi Amano, among others .

Often there are no animals in the aquarium or only very small fish or invertebrates are used. The aim is to create the natural relationship between living beings, substrate and furnishings.

When designing the aquariums, basic design rules such as the golden ratio (in practice, structuring mostly using the ratio or proportion 3: 5) as well as the height and width of the plants are taken into account. So-called laboratory plants that are free from toxins and pests are often used.

There are competitions around the world to choose the most beautiful aquascape.
