Aquaterrarium

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The aquaterrarium forms a smooth transition from the aquarium to the terrarium . The term (i.e. the simulated biotope) itself is not more closely differentiated, whereby the water part usually dominates in an aquaterrarium. If you let z. B. a mangrove root protruding from the water, the basin open at the top, and striving for an emersed vegetation, one can speak of an aquaterrarium. In the terrarium z. B. amphibians, water-loving reptiles or freshwater crabs kept in aquaterrariums.

However, the term aquaterrarium always remains an umbrella term, differentiated forms that simulate certain biotopes are paludarium (swamp terrarium), riparium (shore terrarium) and rivarium (stream terrarium ).

There are more and more falsified definitions on the Internet, whereby the term aquaterrarium, for example, is equated with paludarium. This is wrong because a swamp does not require clear water and a terrarium with a water part does not have to mean that there are swampy spots in it.
