Emers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ranunculus cf. aquatilis, an emersed water plant also native to Germany.

Aquatic plants are referred to as emersed ( emerged ) that grow fully or partially above the surface of the water.

The term emersed as well as submerged is used in aquaristics for the way of life of plants . An emersed plant either grows entirely on land or is a swamp plant . So it can also thrive outside of the water and is therefore z. B. ideally suited for a paludarium .

Plants are referred to as semi-emersed if they partly protrude under water and partly with their sprouts above the water surface.

Often there are mixed forms whose roots thrive in water, but whose leaves have to be in the air. In the trade, however, these plants are often offered as pure aquarium plants , the leaves of which then gradually become glassy and rotten, as they are slow-growing plants. The inexperienced aquarist then blames this on incorrect care, but cannot help it because he simply has not bought a water plant.

Examples of emersed plants are Echinodorus , Java fern and Anubias .
