Arachnula impatiens is a shell-less amoeba from the family Vampyrellidae , tribe Cercozoa .

features

The amoeba is spherical to highly branched, sometimes also elongated, with the filopodia then concentrating at both ends. The pseudopodia are rarely networked. She is very agile. Their size varies from 50 micrometers to 1 millimeter. The cytoplasmic flow is unidirectional. The fine filopodia can develop all over the body, but are preferably formed at the front end.

Other stages such as cysts are not known.

Nutrition and diffusion

The species feeds on unicellular fungi and algae , such as diatoms, and probably also on bacteria . The ingested food is visible in the cell for a long time. The amoeba often pulls potential food particles with it over long distances.

The distribution of this amoeba is poorly known. The first description came from the brackish water of the Black Sea near Odessa . Other finds come from Scottish garden soil and from the flushing edge of Lake Baikal .
