The Arai Terraces are a level of rugged ice terraces and glacier breaks in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . They are located immediately south of the Fazekas Hills not far from the Lowery Glacier in the Queen Elizabeth Range of the Transantarctic Mountains .
Participants in a campaign carried out by the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition from 1959 to 1960 named them after the word "Arai" for "barrier", which was borrowed from the Māori , as this formation was an insurmountable obstacle on the sledge excursion on this research trip.
