Work and life NRW
Work and life DGB / VHS Nordrhein-Westfalen e. V. has been the further education institution of the German Trade Union Federation (DGB) and the adult education centers (VHS) in North Rhine-Westphalia since 1949 . The political and content-related orientation of work and life in North Rhine-Westphalia is based on the models and work priorities of its sponsors - with the aim of bringing them together in their work and thus setting their own new accents. The training facility is part of a Germany-wide structure and maintains a wide range of contacts in Europe and beyond.
Mission statement
Work and Life NRW is based on the following model:
- Commitment to humane, social and participatory working and living conditions.
- Support and accompaniment in the implementation of corporate democracy.
- Standing up for sustainable use of resources and long-term effectiveness.
- Strengthening people through emancipatory education to exercise their political, social and cultural rights and against social discrimination.
- Help to clarify interests, represent points of view and promote options for action based on solidarity.
- Promotion of equal participation of women and men and people with different cultural backgrounds.
- Improvement of one's own work through continuous further development of requirements, goals and educational practices.
organization
The state working group for work and life in North Rhine-Westphalia with around 40 employees is based in Düsseldorf. In addition, four other full-time local working groups, Berg-Mark, Bielefeld, Herford and Oberhausen belong to the state organization. The Federal Working Group Work and Life , based in Wuppertal , acts as the joint umbrella organization of the individual state working groups .
Board
In addition to the two chairmen Jürgen Pohl from the VHS Recklinghausen and Anja Weber from the DGB district of North Rhine-Westphalia, eight other members belong to the board of the state working group.
Seminars
Arbeit und Leben NRW offers a number of seminars for further training in the areas of company interest representation, political education and youth education. For decades, the organization has been responsible for international youth encounters with the Franco-German Youth Office ( DFJW ). In addition to the seminars, the training facility is also known for larger conferences. These include, for example, the Rhine-Ruhr Labor Law Day, the specialist conference Women on the road to success and the Health Day.
Projects
Another central field of activity of the institution is the diverse project work. This includes projects in the field of labor migration, creating perspectives for young people from southern Europe, youth encounters and offers for employees and members of works councils.
In the course of the implementation of the state political project to make NRW the state of fair work, Arbeit und Leben NRW is participating in a project on the free movement of workers through the advisory centers for migrant workers from Central and Eastern Europe in Dortmund and Düsseldorf. The current traveling exhibition "Migrant Work - Faces of a New Working Class" also provides an insight into the everyday life of people who leave their homeland to work.
The "Forge your future" project, which enables young people from Spain in Germany to get an apprenticeship in Germany, received a lot of attention in numerous regional media.
With basic education and literacy courses, employees with difficult access to education can improve their chances on the labor market. If employees or works council members suffer from bossing at work , they can be supported by the Fair in the company project.
Prize for democracy in the company
With the Democracy in Business Prize , Arbeit und Leben NRW honors people, initiatives, projects and campaigns who have promoted participation and democracy in companies and administrations. Since 2009, the prize has been awarded every two years according to a specific focus. The current Minister of Labor of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia is the patron of the award.
ESF project agency
Arbeit und Leben NRW is one of three project agencies of the ESF , which bundles the expressions of interest for the further training institutions in NRW and forwards them to the ministries. Responsibility is divided in such a way that the institutions in municipal sponsorship have the state association of adult education centers as their point of contact, the denominational further education institutions the state working group for Catholic adult and family education in NRW eV and all other institutions the state working group work and life DGB / VHS North Rhine-Westphalia.
