Anja Weber (trade unionist)

Anja Weber (born January 10, 1961 in Dortmund ) is a German trade unionist . The graduate political scientist has succeeded Andreas Meyer-Lauber as chairwoman of the DGB district of North Rhine-Westphalia since 2017 .

Anja Weber studied political science , sociology , European ethnology and economics in Marburg . During her studies she already worked as a typist at the Schultheiss brewery in Berlin , after completing her studies she began working there in customer service and was elected to the works council. Since 1992 she has been active in the food-pleasure-restaurants union (NGG), initially as a youth secretary in Berlin. In 1997 she became head of department at the NGG headquarters in Hamburg. In 2002 she moved to NRW . From 2006 to 2014 she was the trade union secretary of the NRW state district of the NGG. From 2014 to 2017, Guntram Schneider appointed her as a state arbitrator in the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs , making her the first woman in the seventy-year history of this office. Weber was u. a. involved in arbitration at Celenus Kliniken , Dura Automotive Systems and Kaiser's Tengelmann . She is the first female chairperson of the DGB district of North Rhine-Westphalia, which had 1.4 million members in 2017, almost a quarter of the DGB's total membership .

Anja Weber is a member of the SPD.
