Dura Automotive Systems Inc. , is a US company and a global automotive supplier . The company is headquartered in Auburn Hills , Michigan . The company's shares were listed on the NASDAQ New York Stock Exchange through late 2009 . Since then, Dura Automotive has been owned by the private equity firm Patriarch Partners .

DURA Automotive Systems has branches for production and sales in Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Germany ( Daun , Düsseldorf , Lüdenscheid , Einbeck , Lage , Rotenburg ), Great Britain, France, Spain, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic ( Strakonice , Blatna ), India, Japan, Korea and China. In 2019 the company had 9,400 employees

The plants in Germany (Plettenberg and Selbecke) were closed on April 30, 2019.

history

In 1987 Dura was acquired by Wickes Companies .

In 1990 Wickes sold Dura to Hidden Creek Industries .

In 1994 the Orscheln Company was taken over.

In 1996 the name was changed to Dura Automotive Systems .

In 1999, Dura acquired Meritor's car seat division .

In 2006, the company took advantage of Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings to become competitive again by reorganizing the company. The US subsidiaries placed themselves under the protection of American bankruptcy law, while the international subsidiaries were able to continue operating.

2019 Dura Automotive again filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the US on Oct. 21, 2019.

Germany

The branches in Einbeck and Rotenburg go back to the Heidemann works founded in 1955 . In 1997 the company merged with the English Adwest , in 1999 it was sold to Dura Automotive.
