from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Working Group on Historical Women and Gender Studies e. V. (AKHFG) was founded in 1990 under the name of the Working Group on Historical Women's Research ; in 1999 it was expanded to its current name. In 2007 the working group was transformed into an association and Hamburg was established as the association's headquarters.

aims

The association promotes historical women and gender research. He wants to anchor this permanently in the scientific and cultural landscape of the Federal Republic of Germany, both at universities and at non-university institutions such as archives. The AKHFG supports the scientific exchange between all those who work on women's and gender history, and pays special attention to the promotion of young scientists. The main scientific concern of the association is to anchor historical research on women and gender in general historical studies .

founding

The initiative came from historians Gisela Bock , Karin Hausen and Heide Wunder , among others , when they founded the Working Group on Historical Women's Research as the German committee of the International Federation for Research in Women's History (IFRWH). The intellectual background was the advent of women's history ( Women's history ) due to the so-called. "Second wave" of the women's movement , first in the US and later in continental Europe.

activities

The AKHFG regularly organizes scientific conferences, workshops, lectures and regional meetings. In addition, the association issues public statements on social and science-political events and in this way seeks an exchange with a broader public about current developments in gender research. In this sense, the AKHFG 2017 takes part in the nationwide Science Day on Gender Studies.
