Karin Hausen

Karin Hausen (born March 18, 1938 in Hamburg ) is a German historian . She is considered one of the pioneers in women and gender studies .

Life

Karin Hausen studied history , German literature and sociology at universities in Berlin , Marburg , Münster , Paris and Tübingen and received her doctorate in 1969 under Gerhard A. Ritter at the Free University of Berlin . From 1978 to 1995 Karin Hausen was professor for economic and social history at the Institute for History at the Technical University of Berlin . There she founded the Center for Interdisciplinary Women and Gender Studies (ZIFG) in 1995, which she headed from 1995 until her retirement in 2003 as a professor for interdisciplinary women and gender studies.

Hausen is one of the pioneers in women's and gender history in German-speaking countries. Another focus of her work is the history of colonialism and technology . Together with Gisela Bock and Heide Wunder , she founded the history and gender series at Campus Verlag and the historical women's research group in 1992 . She was co-editor of L'Homme from 1995 to 2012 . European Journal of Feminist History and is a member of the Advisory Board of Feminist Studies .

Karin Hausen was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for her achievements in historical research .

Karin Hausen is the mother of a daughter born in 1973.
