Archaeological Museum in the Tanzhaus

The Archaeological Museum in the Tanzhaus is an archaeological museum in Donauwörth in Bavaria . The focus of the exhibition is the prehistoric and early historical settlement of northern Swabia , in particular of the Donau-Ries district from the Stone Age to the early Middle Ages . The highlights of the numerous archaeological finds are a 70,000-year-old hand ax , parts of an Urnfield- era splendor armor, Celtic weapons and parts of a Roman traveling wagon.

The museum was set up in 1981 on the 4th floor of the historical department and dance store from the 14th century. The museum offers children and school classes interesting educational offers on the topics Come with me to the Stone Age and a trip to the Roman Age or to birthday parties.

The museum has been closed since July 2016 due to fire safety concerns at the dance house. A decision on how to proceed with the museum has not yet been made.
