Archibald Blair

Archibald Blair (* before 1771 ; † 1815 in Bayford , Hertfordshire) was a marine surveyor in the British East India Company .

Blair worked mainly in the Indian Ocean. There he named Port Cornwallis on the Andamans , which was later renamed Port Blair . His name also appears on nautical charts as Blair's Harbor , from exploring the South China Sea . His own 1805 records of the Malay Peninsula refer to the site as A Good Harbor , although an earlier map in 1793 referred to it as the Plan of Blair's Harbor .
