The Hexental is a valley landscape formed by the main fracture zone of the Upper Rhine Graben south of Freiburg im Breisgau . It separates the Schönberg massif in the west from the Black Forest in the east . The name Hexental is derived from Hagstal .

geography

Actually there are two valleys, which at their highest point at about 400  m above sea level. NN collide south of Wittnau . The northern part of the valley with the villages of Merzhausen and Au , as well as Horben at the upper end of the Katzental branching off to the east, is drained into the Dreisam via the stream called Reichenbach there . The southern part with Sölden and Bollschweil is drained by the Möhlin . The northern and southern ends of the Hexental are about 250  m above sea level. NN , Horben on the upper edge of the Katzental, facing the Black Forest, is about 600  m above sea level. NN .

The beginning of the beggar's path runs through the Hexental .

economy & Administration and Management

The communities are rapidly growing residential communities in the vicinity of the city of Freiburg, where many residents commute to work. There is also a few agriculture and forestry, and to a lesser extent also viticulture.

With the exception of Bollschweil, the communities have come together to form the Hexental administrative community in order to be able to maintain their independence from the city of Freiburg.

traffic

State road 122, which leads from Freiburg to Ehrenkirchen , runs through the Hexental . The 7208 Südbadenbus also runs here .

Protected areas

The eastern part of the valley from Au to behind Sölden with a size of 525.9 hectares as since January 18, 2008 the conservation area Eastern Hexental reported (reserve number 3.15.045). The western part of part of the territory Schoenberg (1982) (reserve number 3.15.015), which is already and since 23 August 1982 a size of 1310.1 hectares of conservation area up Pfaffenweiler and Ebringen extends.
