Archibald Douglas, 1st Earl of Ormond
Archibald Douglas, 1st Earl of Ormond (around 1609 - April 16, 1655 in Edinburgh ) was a Scottish nobleman .
Life
Douglas was the eldest son of William Douglas, 1st Marquess of Douglas , and his first wife Margaret Hamilton. He held the Scottish offices of Privy Counselor and Extraordinary Lord of Session. From his brother he also took over the leadership of the Douglas regiment in France, but still lived mostly in Scotland. As his father's Heir Apparent , he carried the courtesy title of Earl of Angus .
On April 3, 1651 Archibald was raised to Earl of Ormond and Lord Bothwell and Hartside ; he could not follow his father's title, however, because he died five years before him.
