James Douglas, 2nd Marquess of Douglas (* 1646 - February 25, 1700 in Douglas , South Lanarkshire ) was a Scottish nobleman.

Life

Douglas was the eldest son of Archibald Douglas, 1st Earl of Ormonde , and his first wife Anna Stewart. He followed his grandfather William in 1660 as Marquess of Douglas . He also served as a Scottish Privy Counselor.

James was married twice. He first married Barbara († 1690), daughter of John Erskine, 20th Earl of Mar , with whom he had a son:

  • James (1671-1692), Earl of Angus

In his second marriage he married Mary († 1736), daughter of Robert Kerr, 1st Marquess of Lothian , with her he had three children:

  • William (1693-1694), Earl of Angus
  • Archibald (1694–1761), 1st Duke of Douglas, 3rd Marquess of Douglas
  • Jane (1698–1753), married Sir John Stewart of Grandtully, 3rd Baronet
