John Erskine, 20th Earl of Mar

John Erskine, 20th Earl of Mar (* 1585 , † 1653 ) was a Scottish nobleman .

Life

His father was John Erskine, 19th Earl of Mar , his mother was Anne Drummond, daughter of David Drummond, 2nd Lord Drummond .

With the death of his father on December 14, 1634, he took over the title of 20th Earl of Mar (first award), as well as the subordinate title of 13th Lord Garioch and 8th Lord Erskine . According to a decision of the House of Lords Privileges Committee on February 26, 1875, he is also de iure as 3rd Earl of Mar (seventh bestowal).

In June 1610 he was beaten as Prince of Wales to Knight of the Bath on the occasion of the investiture of Prince Henry Frederick Stuart . Between 1615 and 1638 he was the commandant and governor of Edinburgh Castle . Between 1620 and 1626 and between 1628 and 1630 he was Extraordinary Lord of Session (noble judge appointed by the king at the Supreme Civil Court); in 1617 he was also a member of the Privy Council .

Through his marriage, on February 6, 1609, to Jean Hay, daughter of Francis Hay, 9th Earl of Erroll , he had two children:
