Lord Garioch

Lord (of) Garioch is a hereditary British title of nobility in the Peerage of Scotland , which as a subordinate title of each day Earl of Mar is run.

The title refers to the Garioch region in Aberdeenshire .

Award

The title was created by King Robert I in 1320 for his sister Christina Bruce , widow of Gartnait, 7th Earl of Mar , who died in 1305 . On her death, the title fell to her grandson Thomas, 9th Earl of Mar, and was confirmed by a document dated January 27, 1357. Since then, the lord title has been a subordinate title of the respective Earls of Mar.

The current title holder is Margaret of Mar, 31st Countess of Mar as the 24th Lady Garioch.
