Charles Erskine, 22nd Earl of Mar

Charles Erskine, 22nd Earl of Mar (born October 19, 1650 in Alloa , † May 23, 1689 ), was a Scottish nobleman .

Life

His father was John Erskine, 21st Earl of Mar , his mother was Jean Mackenzie, daughter of George Mackenzie, 2nd Earl of Seaforth .

When his father died in September 1668, he took on the title of 22nd Earl of Mar (first award), as well as the subordinate title of 15th Lord Garioch and 10th Lord Erskine . According to a decision of the House of Lords Privileges Committee on February 26, 1875, he is de iure also the 5th Earl of Mar (seventh bestowal).

As a successful soldier with the rank of colonel, he was one of the co-founders of the "Royal Scots Fusiliers" in 1678, to which he belonged until 1686. From 1682 he was also a member of the Privy Privy Council .

Through his marriage in 1674 to Mary Maule, daughter of George Maule, 2nd Earl of Panmure (1619–1671), he had three sons and one daughter:
