Archibald Stuart Nisbet "Archie" Semple (born March 31, 1928 in Edinburgh , † January 26, 1974 ) was a Scottish clarinetist of Dixieland jazz .

Archie Semple started his music career with local bands in his hometown Edinburgh, mostly with his brother, trumpeter John Semple. Around 1952 he also led his own formation before he became a member of the trumpeter and singer Mick Mulligan's band . He then played in 1953/55 in the band of trumpeter Freddy Randall , from 1954 in the band of trumpeter Alex Welsh , to which he belonged until 1963. In 1960 and 1961 he recorded the two albums Jazz for Living Lovers and Night People - in a trio with pianist Fred Hunt and bassist Jack Fallon or as a quartet with Alex Welsh. A nervous breakdown ended Semple's musical career; after 1964 he was rarely active in the English jazz scene.

In his playing, he processed influences from Edmond Hall and Pee Wee Russell .
