Archie Taiaroa

Sir Archie Taiaroa KNZM (born January 3, 1937 , † September 21, 2010 in Hamilton , Waikato region , New Zealand ) was a New Zealand politician and representative of the Māori .

biography

After attending Hato Paora College, Archie Taiaroa was committed to the interests of the Māori for many years and was chairman of the Whanganui River Māori Trust and, from 2004 until his resignation in 2009, chairman of Te Ohu Kaimoana , the association of the Māori fishing associations. He was also a representative of the interests of the Māori in the council of the Manawatu-Wanganui region and in the municipal council of Taumarunui .

He was an advisor to several New Zealand Prime Ministers for around twenty years and was inducted into the New Zealand Order of Merit as a Distinguished Companion in 2003. After the reform of the religious classes of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2009, he had his rank rededicated to a Knight Companion , was thereby raised to the knighthood and has since had the addition of Sir .
