Arctic Cat ATV / Quad of the Finnish Border Guard

Arctic Cat is a manufacturer of ATVs ( quads ) and snowmobiles based in Thief River Falls , USA . Arctic Cat has been a Textron subsidiary since 2017 .

Company history

David Johnson, Edgar Hetteen and Allan Hetteen developed and built a machine in 1954 to be able to drive on snow. The company became known as Polaris Industries . Edgar Hetteen left the company in June 1960 and founded Polar Manufacturing in Thief River Falls . The company name (company) was later changed to Arctic Enterprises.

Arctic Enterprises began producing Arctic Cat snowmobiles in 1960. Arctic Enterprises later expanded by purchasing boat manufacturers such as Spirit Marine, Silver Line, Larson and Lund. Spirit Marine produced the first wetbike (a type of watercraft ) in the year 1978th

The snow-poor winter of 1980 and overproduction forced Arctic Enterprises to shut down operations and sell the boat-building subsidiaries. In 1981 Arctic Enterprises filed for bankruptcy and stopped production in 1982. In 1984 a new company was founded with Arctco, which resumed production of the Arctic Cat snowmobiles. In 1996 the company officially changed its company to Arctic Cat Inc.

Since 2003, ATV sales have exceeded snowmobiles. In 2016, the company's headquarters were relocated to Minneapolis .

On March 6, 2017, Arctic Cat was taken over by Textron . After the takeover, the company's headquarters were moved back to Thief River Falls.
