Ardencaple Hotel

The Ardencaple Hotel is a hotel in the Scottish village of Rhu . It is located at the entrance to Rhu on Gareloch Road across from the bank of the Gare Loch . In 1971 the Ardencaple Hotel was included in the Scottish Monuments List in the highest category A.

The exact time of construction of the hotel is not recorded, so that only the early 19th century can be given as the construction period. The company was built at the instigation of the Dukes of Argyll . It served as a way station and post office along the route between Glasgow and Inveraray . At the time of construction, the hotel was not yet incorporated into the village of Rhu and was a striking landmark.

description

The main entrance faces southwest towards Gareloch Road . Three window axes run vertically through the front of the three-story building. The central entrance door is surrounded on both sides by vertical decorative ribbons that end at a horizontal decorative ribbon at floor level. One-story wings with gable roofs protrude on both sides , which in the further course stretch along the building flanks. The front ends with an ornate parapet railing that conceals a hipped roof behind. The protruding side wings each have a lattice window, which is framed by a simple arch. The gable surfaces are designed as suggested, simple triangular gables. At the rear, several wings belong to the hotel, which stylistically correspond to the front. The roofs are covered with gray slate. Individual parts of the building are plastered with the traditional Harl .
