Arecurius

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Arecurius (or Aericuros ) was a Celtic / British god who was worshiped near Hadrian's Wall . He was equated with the Roman Apollon or Mercurius and is regarded as the male counterpart to the goddess Aericura . He is mentioned as such in an inscription on an altar stone in Coriosopidum ( Corbridge , Northumberland ) (DEO ARECVRIO APOLLINARIS CASSI VSLM).

According to MacKillop, the name Arecurius means "who stands before the tribe", "who leads the tribe".
