Areley Hall

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Areley Hall is a country house in the village Areley Kings in Stourport-on-Severn in the English county Worcestershire . Listed by English Heritage as a Grade II Historic Building, it shouldn't be confused with nearby Astley Hall , the former home of former British Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin . There are a number of other country houses and mansions in the area including Witley Court , Pool House , Hartlebury Castle and Abberley Hall with its clock tower.

Most of the Areley Hall dates from the late 16th century, although it was significantly rebuilt in the 1820s and 1870s. By and large it is a half-timbered house ; some bricks were added. Inside, the stairwell and the roof structure show that essential parts of the original house have been preserved to this day. The open chimneys and other furnishing details come from the renovations of the 19th century. Areley Hall was added to the Historic Buildings List in 1950.
