Argyresthia spinosella , also known as sloe bud moth , is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of web and bud moths (Yponomeutidae).
features
This small butterfly reaches a wingspan of 9 to 11 millimeters. The tips of the forewings are speckled with dark brown. The front half of the front wings is speckled light brown, while the rear half is white and halfway along it has a light brown spot that extends to the rear edge of the wing. In the sitting position, this spot appears as a dark band that runs across the body of the butterfly.
The approximately 6 mm long caterpillars are yellow-green. They have a black head and two adjacent dark spots on the top of the first segment. At the rear end, the caterpillars are slightly darkened.
distribution
Argyresthia spinosella is widespread in Europe. In the north the occurrence of the species extends to central Sweden. In Great Britain the species is only absent in the north of Scotland.
Way of life
The species forms one generation per year, this flies from June to July. The moths are attracted to the light. In spring, the caterpillars mine on the flowering shoots of the blackthorn ( Prunus spinosa ).
