The Arkansas Jamboree Barndance , also known as the Barnyard Frolic , was an American country show broadcast by KLRA of Little Rock , Arkansas .

history

development

The Arkansas Jamboree Barndance was first broadcast from Little Rock in April 1946. The show was hosted by a country singer known as " Little Shoe ". Little Shoe, whose real name was Alma Crosby and was born in 1910, had already made a name for herself in Wheeling , West Virginia , at the WWVA Jamboree and then roamed the country, where she was on various channels such as KMOX ( St. Louis ) and KMBC ( Kansas City ) had worked. After Little Shoe lived in the north of the United States for a while, she returned to the southern states with the idea of starting her own barn dance show. While many stations rejected their plans, the management of the station KLRA in Little Rock, Arkansas, agreed.

1946 to 1960

From now on, the Arkansas Jamboree Barndances were broadcast live from the Tommy Trent Fun Barn every Saturday evening from 10:30 a.m. Although the broadcaster did not have a long reach, the show turned out to be very successful. Little Shoe left town in the early 1950s and Chick Adams took over production of the show.

During the 1940s and early 1950s, it was mainly hillbilly musicians such as Frank Dudgeon, the Armstrong Twins, the Union County Boys or Little Shoe themselves who appeared on the show. From 1954, more rockabilly musicians appeared. The Sun Ensemble from Sun Records, based in Memphis , Tennessee , was regularly represented with Johnny Cash , Sonny Burgess and Slim Rhodes . Even Elvis Presley made an appearance in barndance, the audience, however, was not enthusiastic about his music style and his appearance so early Presley had to leave the stage. Other members of the show included Lonnie Glossom, the Venables and Tommy Trent.

There was also a TV version of the show later. However, by 1960 the Arkansas Jamboree Barndance was discontinued, largely due to the changing music and entertainment industries.
