Arlene Swidler

Arlene Anderson Swidler (born March 6, 1929 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin , † May 24, 2008 ) was an American Catholic theologian, author , English scholar and university teacher.

Life

After finishing school, Swidler attended Marquette University from 1946 to 1950, and achieved a bachelor's degree in English literature in 1950 . She then studied English and Comparative Literature at the University of Wisconsin in Madison . In 1952 she achieved her master's degree . From 1978 to 1980 Swidler studied Catholic theology at Villanova University and she received her Masters in this subject in 1980.

After completing her studies, she got a job as a university lecturer and taught at various universities in the following decades. Swidler wrote several books and published numerous articles and translations in various publications.

Together with her husband Leonard Swidler , she founded the Journal of Ecumenical Studies .
