Arma-Christi-Kreuz (Ursulapoppenricht)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The listed Arma-Christi-Kreuz von Ursulapoppenricht is located at the southern entrance to the village on a small hill and should serve as a meditation for those who do not know the scriptures. In contemplating the Lord's instruments of suffering , the evil in the soul should be suffocated.

The Ursulapoppenrichter Kreuz possesses about two dozen of these "tools". At the top of the longitudinal bar is the cock that crowed when Peter denied the Lord three times . Below is the purse with the 30 pieces of silver that Judas received from the high priests for his betrayal of Jesus . The cross title INRI shows Christ as King of the Jews. Underneath are three dice and also the cup with which Roman soldiers raffled off the gentleman's tunic. In the middle of the cross there is an image of the veil of Veronica . Below that is the heart of Jesus as a symbol of divine love for human beings. Then there is the cup of passion that Jesus drank in view of the impending martyrdom. There is also a sponge soaked in vinegar that was given to Jesus to quench his thirst. Under the dice cup are the feet with the marks of the Lord and his tunic. At the foot of the longitudinal beam there is also a jug that was used to bring water to Pontius Pilate to wash his hands in innocence. On the outside of the crossbar, the two hands of Christ with the wounds can be seen, as well as the instruments of torture, on the left a scourge, then a lance on which the vinegar sponge was handed to Jesus. An iron glove as a symbol of the mistreatment of Jesus by the soldiers as well as a hammer and pliers for driving in the cross nails are also attached. Then there is a second lance with which the Roman centurion stabbed Jesus in the side to check whether he was already dead.

The exact date of origin of the cross is not known, but it is localized in the 19th century. The cross was restored between 1945 and 1949. It is referred to as one of the most richly endowed Arma-Christi crosses in Eastern Bavaria.
