Army reserve command system Objekat D-0 ( Serbo-Croatian  Атомска ратна команда / Atomska ratna komanda , ARK) is a bunker in Konjic in Bosnia and Herzegovina . It was intended to serve as a reserve command system for the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) in the event of a nuclear war .

history

Construction began in 1953 and was completed in 1979. The facility was kept secret until the wars of Yugoslavia . At that time, the equivalent of 4.5 billion US dollars was invested in the construction. Larger sums were only spent on the aircraft cavern in Željava and the military part of the port in Split .

During the Bosnian War in 1992, the Yugoslav People's Army planned to blow up the bunker so as not to let it fall into the hands of the advancing army of Bosnia and Herzegovina . The officer on watch prevented this by cutting the ignition cables the night before the planned demolition.

construction

The facility can be entered via three entrances. These are disguised as residential buildings and the entrance is hidden in the vehicle garage . In the facility, rooms were built on an area of 6500 m² at a depth of 280 m into the mountain. The field coverage there was over 200 m. 350 soldiers and officers could stay there. The system is so strongly protected to a hit a 20-25 kilotons strong nuclear weapon should survive nearby.

The rooms in the inner core were divided into ten blocks. In addition to their own water supply and treatment from an underground water source, these rooms include rooms with diesel engines coupled with power generators , fuel cisterns for the diesel engines, air filters against NBC warfare agents , conference rooms, telecommunications switchgear, hotel-like bedrooms and lounges for the individual staff officers, a room with a large number of telecommunications equipment and a canteen. The air conditioning ensured a constant temperature of 22 degrees Celsius. The communication lines led to relay stations on the surrounding mountain peaks.

Art biennial

On May 27, 2011, the first art biennial in Bosnia and Herzegovina since the Bosnian War opened in the bunker . The show, jointly organized by Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina under the title D-0 ARK Underground, shows a variety of objects that deal primarily with the history of the bunker and the history of Yugoslavia.
