Armel Le Cléac'h (2012)

Armel Le Cléac'h [ kleax ] (nickname The Jackal ; born May 11, 1977 in Saint-Pol-de-Léon , Département Finistère , France) has been a French professional ocean sailor since 1999. He is a member of the Board of Directors (Conseil d ' administration) of the IMOCA class association.

Career

French champion of single-handed ocean sailing 2003, two-time winner of the Solitaire du Figaro (2003 and 2010), two-time winner of the Transat AG2R in 2004 and 2010, winner of The Transat 2016 , world champion of the IMOCA class association in 2008, two second place in the Vendée Globe (2008-2009 and 2012-2013).

In 2014 he set a 24-hour record for single-handed sailors of 673 nm with Ultime Banque Populaire VII  .
On January 19, 2017, he won the title in the 8th edition of the Vendée Globe (2016-2017) in a record time of 74 days, 3 hours, 35 minutes and 46 seconds.

In 2018, Le Cléac'h won the Laureus World Sports Award in the Action Sportsman of the Year category .
