Armia Ludowa
The Armia Ludowa ( AL ; German People's Army ) was an underground communist organization in Poland during World War II . She was supported by the Soviet Union in the fight against the German occupiers in order to establish a communist order in Poland after the victory . It was fought both by the Germans and by the Polish nationalist NSZ . Occasionally there were also clashes with the Armia Krajowa .
On January 1, 1944, the small Gwardia Ludowa (People's Guard) , which had existed since March 1942, was renamed Armia Ludowa by the Krajowa Rada Narodowa (State National Council) . In the beginning the AL had 10,000 members, in July 1944 about 30,000 members, with 6,000 actively involved in fighting.
With the establishment of the Lublin Committee on July 21, 1944, the Armia Ludowa was integrated into the Polish Armed Forces in the Soviet Union , renamed Ludowe Wojsko Polskie (Polish People's Army) and under this name formed the armed forces of the People's Republic of Poland until 1989 .
