The Arndt Lake is a small lake in the Sierra Nevada , California . The lake is in the hinterland of Yosemite National Park near the north boundary of the park at Rock Island and Buckeye Pass. It can only be reached on foot. The Pacific Crest Trail runs across Arndt Lake.

Arndt Lake was named in 1896 after Alvin Arndt, a member of the 4th Cavalry Regiment, who was sent from his location in the Presidio of San Francisco to the Sierra Nevada in 1890 to control the newly established Sequoia + Kings Canyon and Yosemite National Parks . Arndt had led a first reconnaissance team through the Arndt Lake region in 1893.

The lake absorbs the precipitation from its surroundings and drains via an approximately 500 m long stream to Rancheria Creek . This runs through the Kerrick Canyon and flows into the Tuolumne River in the Hetch-Hetchy Reservoir .
