Arne Hofmann

Arne Hofmann (* 1953 ) is a German doctor , specialist in internal and psychosomatic medicine , psychotraumatologist , EMDR trainer and founder of an EMDR training institute in Germany. He introduced the EMDR psychotherapy method developed in the USA in Germany.

Professional background

Arne Hofmann studied medicine at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg from 1977 and received her doctorate in 1983 on the subject of "Transcultural Conflict in a South African Tribe: Traditional vs. Western Birth Practice". He completed his specialist training at the psychoanalytic institute in Heidelberg and learned family therapy from Helm Stierlin . He was an assistant doctor for internal medicine in a cardiological clinic in Bad Nauheim and completed this specialist training in 1991. He continued his psychotherapeutic training at the Psychoanalytical Institute of Horst-Eberhard Richter in Gießen and at the Mental Research Institute of the Palo Alto Group (USA). He learned EMDR from Francine Shapiro in 1991 and was then an assistant doctor for psychosomatic medicine at the Hohe Mark Clinic in Oberursel / Ts from 1991 to 1994 . near Frankfurt am Main. In July 1994, a trauma ward with 16 beds was opened there under his direction, in which patients with EMDR were treated. In 1997, under his leadership, the research project on "Trauma Therapy for Victims of Violence" began at the University of Cologne , and in 1999 he co-founded the first German ambulance for victims of violence and torture at the University of Cologne. He is the medical director of research and further education at the trauma clinic Gezeiten Haus Schloss Eichholz in Wesseling.

Hofmann is the editor of the standard work on EMDR at Thieme-Verlag.

He is co-founder and founding board member of the German-speaking Society for Psychotraumatology (DeGPT), the German section of the International Society for the Study of Dissociation (ISSD) (together with Michaela Huber ), the EMDR Europe and EMDRIA Germany , where he is currently also Board of Directors belongs and is a member of the scientific committee. He is a member of the guideline commission on post-traumatic stress disorder of the German Association of Scientific Medical Societies (AWMF). His main research interests include the treatment of depression with EMDR.

In 1992, Arne Hofmann founded the EMDR Germany training institute in Bergisch Gladbach.

Hofmann has been married to the psychologist Ute Hofmann since 1993.

Awards

  • In 2012 he was awarded the David Servan Schreiber Award by the European Association for EMDR for his contributions to the EMDR method
  • Awarded the Outstanding Research Award in 2015 by the international specialist association EMDRIA.
  • In 2018 Hofmann received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany on the ribbon.
