The Arno Schmidt Foundation , based in Bargfeld , Lower Saxony , the last place of residence of the writer Arno Schmidt , was founded in 1981 by Alice Schmidt , Schmidt's widow, and Jan Philipp Reemtsma . The foundation has been the sole heir to all rights to Arno Schmidt's work since 1983.

Susanne Fischer is the managing director of the foundation. The board of directors includes Bernd Rauschenbach , Joachim Kersten and Jan Philipp Reemtsma, while Michaela Nowotnick is a research assistant.

According to the statutes, the foundation should "look after the memory of Arno Schmidt and present and research his work and personality for posterity and promote literature."

activities

The Arno Schmidt Foundation is the publisher of the Bargfelder Edition, Arno Schmidt's work edition, which is also accessible online. In addition to the published and posthumous works, the author's correspondence appears here. In addition, the diaries of Arno and Alice Schmidt are edited.

Exhibitions and symposia on the life and work of the author are organized and sponsored by the foundation, it also supports topic-related publications and offers readings and seminars at universities. Until 1988 the foundation awarded the Arno Schmidt Prize , which was converted into a research grant. The estate of Arno Schmidt is also administered by the foundation.

The home of Arno and Alice Schmidt on the property next to the foundation is now a memorial and can be visited on guided tours.

Peter Rühmkorf

The Arno Schmidt Foundation was given the copyright to his work by Peter Rühmkorf . Since his death in 2008, the foundation has endeavored to disseminate his work, organize exhibitions and participate in the indexing of his estate in the German Literature Archive in Marbach .
